BK Mirror

The BK Mirror series is a playful yet critical design exploration that comments on the present state of women’s hair in Nigerian society. We are “born kinky and grow up straight”. Why do we straighten our hair and wear hair weaves? What is the archetype of hair and beauty in contemporary Nigeria? With the proliferation of straighter hair textures and brushes for tending these tresses, the traditional hair comb industry has ground to a halt and this in turn has led to the demise of hand carving skills in many parts of the country.
